P001 Flight Around the World
In recognition of WestWind pilots who have circumnavigated the planet by completing Executive Charter P001.
- Fred Weidemann, Command Captain, KIAD, 12/7/2006 - It all started with an innocent flight from KIAD to KMSP on 10/25/2006 in a 737-700 flight time 2:15 and the thought occurred to me, instead of flying the return trip why don't I keep flying west until I end up back in my fine home Hub, KIAD. I continued to Seattle, then to PANC, late night arrival online using VATSIM and low and behold I ran into another WWA captain making the trip from PANC back to KSEA very cool... I continued to some Paddock Island, still in Alaska, then to Japan. I headed down the East Coast of Asia down to my birth place, Hong Kong on 11/13/2006. I flew this entire charter online with the exception of the hop accross the pond from EINN to KBOS, stopping over in Greenland. My last leg was KBOS to KIAD, on 12/07/2007... great ATC all the way. Very glad for it to be over, but it was an proud accomplishment!
- Andrew Podner, Command Captain, KDFW, 3/28/2007 - RTW in a BE58 with no stops in "hostile" areas as described by the State Dept at that time. 37 legs at 103.68 flight hours with an avg speed of 184.3kts burning 2795.22 gallons of fuel. KCVG-KIAG-KFVE-CCE4-BGBW-BIRK-EGPE-EGLM-LFMD-LMML-LGSA-LCLK-OJAM-OBBI-OOMS-VADU-VAKD-VECC-VYKP-VTBD-VLPV-VHHH-ZSSS-RKSS-RJTT-RJCN-UHPP-PADK-KVC-CSR-PAJN-CYVR-KMSO-KDEN-KSTL-KCVG. Longest leg: 4.6hrs OJAM to OBBI (had to overfly Saudi w/o landing. Great experience...highly recommend it!
- Mike Gibbs, Senior Command Captain, KMIA, 4/2/2007 - The RTW flight originated in Paris, France. I proceeded south eastward through India to Perth, Australia. From there, I proceeded through the south pacific Island, including Easter Island (SCIP), the world's most remote airport. Then to Chile, and across the Atlantic to Cape Verde in Africa and up the coast to Paris. The flight was flown in the CONI. The flight took approximately 110 hours.
- Rodney Duran, Cat V, KLAX, 4/23/2007 - In the past month of April, I simmulated a flight around the world (FS9, offline), Starting at London and ending at London. The route was consisted of 40 stops and a total of 74.6 hours. The route I took was the following: EGLL,LFLY,LIRP,LIRU,LIBG,LGSA,ORBS,ORMM,OIKP,OPKC,VIDD,VIAL,VECC,VYSW,VYYY,VTBD,VTSH,WSSL,WIIB,WRSJ,WRRB,WPDL,YPDN,NWWW,NTAA,SCIP,SCEL,SCDA,SPJL,SPCL,SPQT,SBBV,TGPY,TNCM,TISX,TJSJ,KDAB,KCHS,KRDV,KJFK,EGLL
For this flight I used three diferent type of aircraft: B747-400,Beech King Air, and Learjet 45.
- Phil Cohen, Command Captain, KMIA, 6/5/2007 - This was my 2nd RTW. I logged 103.1 hrs, traveled - 36,294 Nm, in the Lear 45. I did this trip in 40 stops, starting on April, 6 2007. Along the way I ran into a few birds in Cairns, Austraila and again in Anchorage, Alaska. That was not the fun part of the trip. During this trip I learned how to properly descend the Glideslope and my damage totals on FSPax came way down!!!
- Mike Gibbs, Senior Command Captain, KMIA, 7/10/2007 - This was a RTW trip in the Piaggio 180. It began and ended at LPAZ in the Azores. The route of flight included stops only on small islands. The route went south around southern Africa, over the Indian Ocean, The Pacific Ocean in the mid latitudes, Easter Island in the south Pacific, across South America and back to the North Atlantic. There were 17 legs.
- Mike Gibbs, Senior Command Captain, KMIA, 7/16/2007 - This was a RTW trip commemorating the introduction of the Boeing 787 which has the capability to fly between any two city pairs in the world. The flight was flown in the B788 in two legs. Singapore - La Paz, Bolivia - Singapore. Each leg was approximately 20 hours of flight time.
- Dale Long, Senior Command Captain, KCVG, 10/11/2007 - Round the world flight in four hops - Makedonia, Greece (LGTS) - Kadala, Russia (UIAA) - Anchorage, Alaska (PANC) - back to Cincinnati, OH. Gulfstream V, 31.5 hours total flight time.
- Mike Gibbs, Senior Command Captain, KMIA, 10/23/2007 - This was a RTW trip to visit all the West Wind hubs. The aircraft was a Lear 45. The LJ45 doesn't have a lot of range, so island hopping over the Pacific was a little interesting. 28 Legs. 71.8 hours. Begun on 10/9/7 for a total of 14 days.
- Justin Beavers, Command Captain, KCVG, 11/12/2007 - First around the world Flight with 41.7 hours. It was great fun and cant wait to do it again!!
- Carl-Warren Dudley, Command Captain, EGLL, 11/22/2007 - Started with a regular flight from home hub to India for a long flight and well, just carried on. All flown in B777-300, first time flying B777. completed over four days, 1 leg per day. Leg 1 from Heathrow to Mumbai, leg 2 from Mumbai to Tokyo, Leg 3 from Tokyo to New York and final leg from New York to Heathrow. B777 performed really well after I found out what the NAV button did, made things alot easier.

- Braden Vonderau, Senior Command Captain, KORD, 12/3/2007 - I begun the charter flight around the world on 10/15 in the DC-3 out of ORD eastbound. My route took me through canada, greenland, england, then southeast through europe to the mideast. Continuing southeast past india, north of australia to the south pacific islands hitting mainland americas again in chile. Then went northbound through south america and back home. Finishing back in ORD on 12/3. I flew 23 days on this trip and my total hours were 133.7
- Michael Sullings, Senior Command Captain, KLAX, 12/24/2007 - Completed P001 after 30 legs in the Beech King Air. See my posts in LAX forum for periodic updates.
- Michael Newell, Senior Command Captain, KORD, 12/28/2007 - Chicago - New York - Rome - Tokyo - Honolulu - LA - Chicago, 6 legs, 36.8 Hours. Flew corporate team to Rome for X-mas and then to Tokyo to conduct negotiations for Corporate take-over. Stopped in Hawaii to celebrate success then back home to Chicago. Stopped in LA to take possesion of a tiger skin that suddenly became available without legal strings, and the team did some clubbing. Then on home to the Windy (and Snowy) City.
- Mike Gibbs, Senior Command Captain, KMIA, 1/14/2008 - This was a round the world flight in the DC6 beginning at Yellowknife, Canada and proceeding to McMurdo Station, Antarctica, then north via French Polynesia, then West to Seoul, South Korea, then north over the north pole and back to Yellowknife. This was RTW trip number 5 for WestWind.
- Lars Hulgreen, Senior Captain, KLAX, 1/20/2008 - First ever trip around the word - lots of plans and very exciting - however towards the end it too became little tedious - nonetheless, I started my endeavour on November 27, 2007 and finished it on January 20, 2008. Starting and ending in Los Angeles and celebrating Christmas at the Victoria Falls in Africa on the banks of the Zambezi River. New Years was spend diving in the India Ocean more exactly the Maldives, but not before we took a short detour to see the highest point in Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro. Further to the east we visited Singapore, Manila, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seoul & Tokyo. Since the season was on for Crab fishing we decided to make a short stop over in Dutch Harbor in the Aleutian Islands before heading towards Alaska and then south to California. During the trip I had the pleasure of receiving my promotion to Senior Captain, which was celebrated appropriately in Brazil - 25235 NM was the total distance flown I did not count the hours.
- Randy Varrone, Command Captain, KDEN, 1/21/2008 - Flew the "Round the World" in the Douglas DC-6 in FSX. The distance was some 25,304 miles in a total of 104.7 hours, flown Easterly, averaging 241.68 miles/hour. I started in Boston on 12/14/2007, and returned to Boston on 1/21/08. A very enjoyable trip, but missed certain places like South America, Australia, Central China and Japan. Next trip will be in a faster plane, so I can fit these places into the trip.
- David Hedges, Command Captain, KMIA, 3/9/2008 - On 31 Jan 08, I departed Cincinatti with a load of passengers heading west. 39 days later I arrived back home. Throughout the trip I logged 43 flights to include 84 hours and covered 28,091 miles. Some of the more memorable portions of the trip was the castle in Salzburg, the landing in Switzerland, the McCarthy Statue at Incheon, the days at St. Maarten Island, the Tokyo skyline, and being escorted into Baghdad. I told the passengers that they really didn't want to see Iraq, but they insisted. And, well... They paid good. I netted a whopping $38.40 on this trip in tips. You see, I flew them for free, but the memories and the souvenirs made this trip the best. Watch out for South American Chinchillas, they bite when you try to shave them! They do tend to taste like chicken though! :)
- Anthony Miller, Command Captain, KLAX, 3/19/2008 - I completed my first round the world flight in the Boeing 707 as well as taking side trips in the Lear 45 and DHC-6 Twin Otter. The flight took exactly four months from 11/19/07 to 3/19/08. The main reason for this was that i wanted to allow my 12 passengers time to enjoy each stop. Over all I flew for a total of 63704 miles and had a total flight time of 125.9 hrs including side trips in Europe, Australia, and a trip to Dutch Harbor on Unalaska Island. For the main part of the flight the average flight time was 4.1 hours with flights ranging from 1.7 hours to 10 hours. We flew to some pretty interesting places and were extremely lucky in that we had no problems with any aircraft over the 37 legs.
- Kory Crohn, Command Captain, KORD, 4/22/2008 - I have just completed leg 27 of the around the world trip, The last leg was SXM-JFK and the first leg was JFK-GOH. total mileage was 34187nm and it took me a total of about 4 months real time to complete.
P002 U.N. World Tour
In recognition of WestWind pilots who completed Executive Charter P002 by flying U.N. delegates to the capitol city of 191 countries in the world.
- Tony Horn, Command Captain, KIAD, 11/12/2008 - Wow!! What a journey. The charter began 6 April 2007 and ended 11 December 2007 some 352.8 flight hours and 231 cities later!! This was an extremely good way to see some really strange and different scenery in FS9. Good weather, appallingly bad weather, rain, snow and storms all added to the tour. There were huge airports, really tough airports (Paro springs to mind) and airports with no parking. There were major sights (Rome, Niagra Falls, Greece, London etc) and strange scenery (long, narrow valleys in the middle of nowhere) There was snow on the ground (Fjords of Norway), deserts of Africa, jungles of South America, and the Himilayas. FS Pax in the last 1/4 of the tour gave extra challenges of bird strikes, flame outs, engines being shot out (twice), undercarriage and flap failures. Clocked up a few awards for big months, and got a big promotion halfway around the world. This took a lot of discipline to get done, but the longer you go the more you want to finish. Next tour will be in FSX, but no more UN tours. Time to put in some hours locally while visiting the hubs.
Longest WestWind Passenger Route
In recognition of WestWind pilots who have flown "The Monster", longest passenger route, round trip EHAM Amsterdam - NZAA Auckland, New Zealand at 11269 miles.
- Mike Gibbs, Senior Command Captain, KMIA, 5/13/2007 - I flew the Green Monster. Amsterdam (EHAM) - New Zealand (NZAA) and return. According to the Monster Route mapper in the Europe and Pacific Forum, it is the longest monster route at WW at 11269 nm. The return flight was the next day.
- Kim Stolt, Senior Command Captain, KDFW, 5/19/2007 - I flew the Blue Monster in a Boeing 777-200LR. Amsterdam (EHAM) - Sydney (YSSY). According to the Monster Route mapper in the Europe and Pacific Forum, it is the longest route at WW at 11269 nm.
- David Hedges, Command Captain, KMIA, 10/21/2007 - The GREEN MONSTER Complete!!! I saw day, I saw night, I saw day again, I saw night again. Flew from EHAM to NZAA with one pit stop for fuel. I flew it in the 747-400ER with no problems over 20.5 hours. Singing to myself (not talking to myself), got me through this beast. Now it's time to vacation in New Zealand!
- Jeff Armstrong, Command Captain, KDFW, 10/28/2007 - The Green Monster completed. Logged 20.9 hours and had about 24K lb of fuel left when I parked at the gate. Started the flight on 10/22 and finished today at 10/28. Flew 6 legs to complete and that includes the two I lost due to computer issues.
- Andrew Podner, Command Captain, KDFW, 10/30/2007 - 2 days, and 20+ hours later, the Green Monster is behind me. Company route was most helpful. I think I am done with the monsters for a while......maybe!
- Andrea Maccioni, Command Captain, EHAM, 11/20/2007 - Very long flight I had a little delay 20.3 hours with a A342, because I was going at low speed (280) and no engine during descend to make it with no stop, I did it only 6500 lbs left.
- Scott Thompson, Command Captain, KATL, 12/2/2007 - This was the return trip (WWA1311) after the outbound (WWA1310) on Nov 24, 2007. Serious headwind for much of flight, landed with less than IFR reserves, 341,432 lbs fuel burned in-flight with the 777-200LR.
- Braden Vonderau, Senior Command Captain, KORD, 12/9/2007 - Flight took a total of 40.9 hours to complete in the B777-200LR. Followed company route.
- Carl-Warren Dudley, Command Captain, EGLL, 12/13/2007 - Green Monster - Flown at FL430 and 280KIAS to conserve fuel, parked at gate with 5500lbs left (close one). Completed in four legs - Leg 1=4 hrs, Leg 2=8 hrs Leg 3=5 hours and finally Leg 4=4 hours. I didnt see the northern lights which was a shame maybe ill see them on the way back.
- Michael Newell, Senior Command Captain, KORD, 12/16/2007 - Flew out of Amsterdam on 12/11/2007 for Aukland . Had a good bit of difficulty with company route published with dispatch. Route came out to over 26000 miles one way. I went back in to MSFS Flight planner and set the route to GPS Direct to Tokyo then High altitude airways to Aukland. I then keyed into PMDG FSC and was able to get the routes to agree that way. Had the same issue with the return flight but was able to set up a flight plan for the full flight coming back without any GPS Direct. Was certainly a long flight and took a sizable bite out of my vacation time that was otherwise spent shoveling snow. Gotta love New England. Any way it feels like an accomplishment but not sure if I have many more like this one in me. 20 hours each way is a very long trip!!!
- James Forbes, Senior Captain, KJFK, 1/19/2008 - I had to make a Re-Fuling trip because what I had in the tank wasn't enough to fly me all the way to NZAA but you do have to think about the weight balance!
- Art Hoven, Senior Captain, EHAM, 2/2/2008 - NEXT FLIGHT IS AROUND THE WORLD
- Kevin Hornaday, Cat V, KIAD, 3/11/2008 - I took the 787 to NZ and had an uneventful, but very long, flight. I might do it again but it will be awhile!
- James Forbes, Senior Captain, KJFK, 4/1/2008 - I flew the "Green Monster" again but this time I wasn't brave enough to stay up 20/21 hours (again) so I paused the flight every so often and then saved it and loaded it back up the next time I was at my PC
- Paul Williamson, Command Captain, KJFK, 5/4/2008 - Set off from EHAM enroute to NZAA. I planned my refueling stop at our hub in Narita Japan, RJAA. Final approach was early morning hours and visibility was foggy until 700 ft. After getting refueled pretty quickly we headed southeast towards Auckland. Winds werent that favorable until halfway to NZAA from RJAA when i caught a tailwind that pushed us to a gs of 614 knots. arrival at NZAA's rwy 5R was delayed by being made to go around by atc due to the aircraft landing before not being cleared of the rwy.
Overall trip length was 9950.3 miles and was flown in 21.9 hours. was a good ride but make sure your FO and relief crew like to talk because there sure isnt much else to do on pond jumping.
P119 Tour of U.S. and Canadian Capitols
In recognition of pilots who complete Executive Charter P119 "Tour of U.S. and Canadian Capitols".
- Phil Cohen, Command Captain, KMIA, 8/29/2007 - I embarked on the US and Canadian Capitols tour on June 20, 2007 Departing from Miami Intl. My trip included stops at all 50 state capitols and Washington DC in the United States, the 13 Provincial capitols of Canada and Ottawa. In all I completed 70 flights including the positioning flights to pick up the Coni, pick up Mr Taylor & guests and drop off the charter before returning home. Total distance flown - 35,610 Nm, Hours Logged - 120.8. The bulk of my trip was flown in the CRJ-200 & the Boeing 737-200 with a few flights in the Coni, JetRanger 206, and the Boeing 757-200 for the cross country flights and the long haul to Hawaii. This was probably the best charter that I have flown to date.
- David Hedges, Command Captain, KMIA, 12/11/2007 - On 7 Nov 07, I took off from Atlanta, GA with an earnest bunch of passengers in pursuit to visit all 60 U.S. and Canadian capitals. Throughout the 34 day trip, we flew through all kinds of weather and saw the best of North America. Before returning to Atlanta, I took them to our nation's capital in Washington D.C. as an extra treat for being so patient and being great customers. A total of 61 flights and logging 89 hours for this tour, I would highly recommend anyone trying this. Freedom is priceless, and having a front row seat at the world's largest IMAX served as the truest inspiration. God bless the U.S.A.! - and Canada too!
- Steve Law, Senior Captain, KBOS, 2/11/2008 - Started this quest in the Beech Baron from KMDD and now we're back. Took 71 flights in 31 days. Flew 21194.9 nautical miles, 141.3 block hours, and burned 3238.87 gallons of 100LL (ferry tank for the Hawaiian legs). Quite an adventure, but the highlight was the low ceiling and visibility approach to Juneau with mountainous terrain close to the approach and the airport. What I thought was going to be an ILS turned out to be an approach on a localizer that was not lined up with the runway and had no glideslope...and I had no approach plate! Broke out high enough to see the approach lights, swing to the left to align with the runway extended centerline, and then swing back to the right to land on the runway. Having survived it, it was great fun. Not much ATC in the northern latitudes (or other traffic, for that matter, except for having to fly an extended downwind because of a 737 in the pattern ahead of me at Goose Bay at 1:00 am local), but P119 was still a great experience.

This leg was from Casper, WY to Waldon, CO a distance of about 200 miles one way in a Fairchild Metroliner on a cargo trip. The weather was VFR conditions very favorable wind, and perfect landing for a grass strip runway. Even though the leg was 0.6 hours one way, it passed the 25 flighs in a month mark. Most of the trip were short hops, but the total mileage is now around 1000nm.
- Kevin Hornaday, Cat V, KIAD, 2/28/2008 - I have flown a minimum of 25 flights this month, although the Flight Log Summary has just 25, and I've personally counted over 30 in my flight log.
