Quick update on RW PPL training

ground school is over, passed the pre-solo exam.  solo-check ride comes monday.  the cheif flight instructor treats this a a mock check-ride so wish me luck.  i think i'll do ok though.  i have been told that i am about 1 week ahead of the rest of the students in the class.  flying the real thing is so much fun!

My first solo was in Nashville many years back and my dad said he was going to come out and video-tape the flight.  I asked him not to do that because I was too nervous.  He said he would not do it if it was a big deal etc.  Well, long story short he taped it anyway and I am so very glad he did. After I landed my dad came out of the woodwork (he was hiding in the parking lot with his camera) and we kind of passed the camera around taping from differant perspectives. I have tapes of me shaking hands with dad and Max Ragsdale my instructor who was only 4 years older than me cutting off my shirt tale.  I really bounced that C150 on my first flight.  This was on runway 2R in Nashville (KBNA ) when it was a short runway.  Now it is 2C.

Re: Quick update on RW PPL training

first solo and first solo x-country out of the way.  took of from KIWA(williams gateway, former afb), and went to KAVQ(marana) and back.  it's amazing how much eaiser it is to navagiate/fly/etc. when you dont have your instructor in the plane.  monday will be the first long solo x-country.  distance will be almost exactly 150NM (KIWA/E63/KRYN/KIWA).  My instructor wants me to take the 172SP, more fuel.  This stuff is realy comming at me fast.  only 1.5 months (give or take) from start to finish for my PPL.  then on to x-country time building for my IFR rating.  PPL checkride is scheduled for Feb. 11.  I have the flying portion down, and just about have the oral portion too.  Just need to brush up on the prog. charts.  one a heavier note, the superbowl TFR has put a real damper on flight ops around here.  I would have done my long distance solo x-country yesterday, but the chief flight instructor doesnt want us busting airspace.  another month or so left, then a 2 week break, then back to finish my ratings.  anyone want some discounted flight training in southern CA, let me know.  you rent the plane, and I'll the teach the flying (CFI/CFII/MEI).  give me about another 4-5 months till im ready.

Re: Quick update on RW PPL training

got my PPL on 2/11.  passed the IRA and CFII writtens on 2/22.  time building for the IRA and flew IWA to ELP.  Had a fround speed of 192 kts on the way there, and 52 kts on the way back.  today if IWA to YUM to DUG to IWA.  all day long in the 172, and were gonna have to try and not turn it into a snow ball.  freezing level is @ around 8k.  MEA is only 6k so we should be good.  12 hours left in the 172, then on to a PA-44 (Piper Seminole).  thats when the real fun begins.  i'll keep the posts coming as time permits.  i just keep asking myself, "why did i wait so long to do this!"
