A few pointers when coming downunder. Australia unlike Europe is sparse country with most of the population in the State Capital cities with Sydney Melbourne and Brisbane being the largest with a distance of 2000km between Brisbane and Melbourne. So if you want to have a good look around Australia I would estimate you need approximately 36 months.
Melbourne is a 1:30 flight from Sydney so keep that in mind the Melbourne Olympic stadium was fr the 56 Olympics and the F1 track is a main road in Melbourne City so currently it is not there but you can pick a few features like the pits etc.
In Sydney there is heaps to do the is the 2000 Olympic stadium and the Olympic precinct pool tennis and other fields, we have the beaches usually attended by the crazy Poms in June, there is the Harbour and that is always worth a day cruise. To the west you have the Blue mountains.
I am sure there are other with other suggestions
But if pubs are your GO as it is with most students I can remember may pub crawls though the city centre in my youth and highlights would be the Lord Nelson, I think they still brew their own
