    Crazy Problem with Boeing 757

    Has anyone had this issue:

When flying the 757 (from the Westwind Hangar) and only the 757, the controls were extremely unresponsive...roll and pitch rates were horrible making the plane fly like a slug.  It behaved this way every time I tried to fly it.

Next, when I'd choose a different aircraft (in this case the 767 from the Westwind Hangar) after flying the 757, it would also be unresponsive, sometimes just falling straight down at whatever attitude like a rock.

Eventually, my FSX locked up and would not come back to life...had to reinstall the simulator.

It's too bad too, since I love the 757!

    Matt

I have never had that problem flying any aircraft. I fly the 757 a lot and have never experienced what you describe. If the framerates were really low (3 fps range or lower), which I get a lot, it could cause problems like you are describing.

Mostly your problem just sounds wierd.

The only problem we ever had with the 757 was bouncing on some runways, but Mike fixed that with some tweaking of the aircraft.cfg file.  When I fly  FSX (I prefer FS9), I fly either the 757 or 727.

     The story of my life.

I don't recall low frame rates...tempted to try it again since I like the 757 a lot.  I'll let you know if something changes.

Looking at this again, two things come to mind.

    • I can't remember whether this works on the 757 or not, but the heading knob on some airplanes has an outer ring that adjusts the maximum bank angle. I have had really sluggish role rates when I accidentally turn that setting.
    • If you accidentally got the sim rate to something like .1x instead of normal or 2x you can get that kind of effect. In essence, everthing would be happening at 1/10th the speed it should be.

Thanks, Mike...I ended up deleting the aircraft for good; for whatever reason flying the 757 impacts how well my program runs.

Fortunately the 767 is working for me, so when the time comes to fly a CATIV aircraft that'll have to be it!

Re: Crazy Problem with Boeing 757

    A little more info:

On the 757, it took approximately 6 seconds to roll from wings level to 30 degrees of bank, using full control inputs...frame rate was fine, as was the view out the window.

Then I noticed relatively sluggish performance with the Dash-8 as well.  Finally, the 767 locked up when I was in autopilot and tried to bring up the GPS (I think I might have been paused too).

The bottom line seems to be that add-on aircraft give my system a hard time.  Otherwise it runs FSX smoothly with the default planes, including in Westwind textures.

Just out of curiosity what are your system specs?

Re: Crazy Problem with Boeing 757

Here's some info on my system...as far as I can tell it is pretty good, and I get reasonable frame rates with default aircraft.  It says in the dxdiag text below that I have "2 CPUs", but I don't think that is true.

I flew the Dash 8 again last night with better results.  The 757 is still very sluggish...rolled more slowly by far than a 747!  Didn't have any lockup problems at least.

    Thanks;

    Matt

PS (edit): I'm leaving open the possibility that my expectations are too high.  How quickly does a 757 rotate from level to 30degrees of bank on your system?  Mine it takes 6-10 seconds, whereas on other aircraft it takes half that time.  I would think a 757 should be relatively nimble.
