    Re: Bird Strike

Yes I never enjoy seeing a bird encounter a live airplane.

Does anyone know where this Tomson flight was going?.  It looks like the chugging engine hardly affected the climb.  I suspect he was putting out some pretty good thrust before the shutdown.  I was wondering how much weight he was hauling.

I'd say Spain or the Canary Islands. Thompson mainly fly to European holiday destinations. If it was during the Summer months, I'd say it was at full capacity or nearly anyway.

Yep it was on its way to Lanzarote, with 221 onboard http://itn.co.uk/news/23e3dd21f42ece6db14cc1997c980ab8.html. Interesting that they said it was a "double strike".

    Re: Bird Strike

It doesn't matter if you're in a 777 or a C172, a Bird Strike is serious business. Anytime you hit or ingest anything that either knocks out your powerplant or reshapes any aerodynamic aspect of your aircraft (i.e. wing), you run a serious risk of going from a powered aircraft to a high sophisticated and expensive glider....or worse.
