Re: B727-200F Advanced for FSX Beta Test CLOSED

    Ken G:

I do have one suggestion. Open the aircraft.cfg. Go to the electrical section and delete the starters.

No luck!  She still won't start.  What really puzzles me is that right after I installed it the other night I did get it started,  after playing around for about 10 minutes.  I ended up doing it with CTRL + E + {Eng #}.  That won't work either.  Just for kicks, I deleted and then reinstalled.  Still nothing!  Looks like this one will be a hangar queen.  Sad Are there any parts that can be scavanged and use on any of our other aircraft? Smile

Tried the above with no go.What i did do is started at Friday Harbor, and entered the game in the air and everything was fired up and running fine.Still cant get a flame on the ground though.I got a few things to do then ill be back to try some more.I can say the little bit i flew  it ,i really think this will be my number one bird once we figure out the start bug.

Re: B727-200F Advanced for FSX Beta Test CLOSED

I have continued to look into this and have come up with zilch. I know some other aircraft have experienced similar problems, but I can not find a solution to this on any of the FDE forums. Starting and shutting down engines are critical to a VA so it is a real shame that people are having problems with this aircraft.

Yes it is a dream to fly, I enjoyed taking this airplane out ever since John Schu sent me the first rendition of the FDE for this airplane. Like a good drug dealer John effectively got me hooked on this airplane. The DC-10 is also just as nice to fly. I love airplanes that fly right and both the 727 and the DC10 fly right.

    Engine won't start, possible solution

    Gentlemen,

Work on the Concorde in which I experienced the same problem in which you were having with the B727 in that the engines would not start. On the Concorde I modified the .air file removing more code that was not present in a default FSX airplane (i.e. the B737_800). It worked with the Concorde as I am now able to fireup and shutdown the engine with impunity. So I have tried the same thing with the B727-200F and have placed the file here http://flywestwind.com/communityserver/files/folders/uploads/entry15121.aspx. I do not know how the changes will effect the aircraft as this is a theoretical change with no flight testing. None of the aerodynamics were changed, just lines removed in which were already defined in the aircraft.cfg file.

FSX is not suppose to get confused by double entries in that when an entry in the aircraft.cfg file conflicts with an entry in the .air file the simulator is suppose to just use the information in the aircraft.cfg file. It seems that at least for engine start, and thus I assume the fuel system, this was not 100% correct. If this patch for the 727-200F works that my hypothesis will be correct and we need to modify the .air file with more prudence. If not oh well, I have been wrong in the past and will be wrong again in the future.

How do you edit an .air file?  I would assume you need to decompile it first somehow?  It appears to be binary data...

No Luck!  No  Still the same.  Thanks for trying!

Another piece of information...I thought it was strange that when this aircraft loads, it is not running, while all others are.  When I loaded it tonight I noticed that in the first instant, the engines are running then immediately shut down.  So, I loaded another aircraft, shut it down, then restarted it. I then reloaded the 727 and noticed again that for the first instant (matter of seconds) the engine is running but immediately shuts down.  I don't know if that helps, but though I would throw that out for consideration.

Well I gave it another try. Thanks Bob, the Concorde did the same thing, shut down after loading. I have seen this on other aircraft and usually don't bother to try and do anything else with them. I can not figure out why the B727F is so different, in fact it has always worked fine for me since day one.

Re: Engine won't start, possible solution

I think I've found something that made my copy of the 727-200F work!

It can get quite annoying but; If you get the Trike Ultralight in a BRAND NEW flight, then shut off the Engins and start them back up again and then give it a quick spin around in the Sky.

After that End the Fs Flight, create a new flight with the 727 and then it worked for me!

    Just trying to help

Re: Engine won't start, possible solution

Okay, here is the latest discovery:  On the ground, won't start...no way, no how.  But, start in the air, the engines are running.  I was on the ground with the no start condition.  I went to Map View and set it up for 10000 feet and a airspeed of 250 knots.  The were running, so I flew it to the nearest airport and landed. I shut it down, then tried to restart. No go!  I put i back in the air and te engines were running again.  Wierd!!! Confused

Ok, now I have heard it all.

Do you have Acceleration installed? I remember that the G550 had issues with the wings until we found an offending texture between FSX SP2 and FSX Acceleration that needed to be replaced.

Re: Engine won't start, possible solution

This is very strange. I installed this aircraft right after beta testing and I have no problem with it. I run XP, FSX Acceleration. It does take forever for the engines to start. Once the game loads and I am sitting at the gate, I just hit CTRL E  and then sit there for about 2 or 3 minutes while everything spools up. I don't know what help that is, but I wanted to try and give that glimmer of hope that this aircraft works.

My operating system is XP Pro and I have SP2 installed.

I have FSX acceleration (obviously with SP2) and i'm not sure if that let it work or not! I'll try it without Acceleration installed over the Weekend if wanted!
