12/18/2008 Update
I have finished putting together the 777-200LR for FSX, including the 777 2D panel and Virtual Cockpit.
I was able to get all the 777 gauges to work properly on my system...since it is 64-bit Vista I'm thinking that if there were any 'legacy' gauge issues they would have presented themselves by now, but we'll test it to be sure. Overall I can say without hesitation that this is an awesome airplane that people are really going to enjoy. What remains is making a final check this evening (esp making sure the effects and ground servicing stuff works right), submission for approval and upload to the website.
For those who are interested, the biggest challenge with getting the FSX version of this to work was making sure that all of the needed files were in place! For those of you (like me) who have never had FS9, I rounded up the 777 gauge file and a critical .dll and included them in the install. I was about ripping my hair out trying to get the 777 gauges to display - tried every thinkable arrangement of panel.cfg and gauge files - until I googled "777-300.gau doesn't work"...apparently without that FS9 .dll file you've got no chance! Another interesting item was that at first many of the switches in the VC were not usable, including the switches that control the center EICAS displays...so there were like 4 HSIs, LOL. In fact I saw a guy on another site pasted B738 gauges in there as a stopgap solution to that. There was also a crazy texture fragment in your face if you tried to look out the left side window. The real fix I found online turned out to be a small tweak to the 'eyepoint'; it had been IN THE HEADREST apparently. With that changed the VC buttons all work and the fragment was gone.
Keep your fingers crossed!
