I recently was "forced" to migrate to a new computer - a Dell XPS 730H2C, which was sent as a replacement for a previous model that was defective (short version: they didn't have a part number for a 4 cent screw and small piece of plastic, so they replaced the entire machine!)
My setup is exactly the same, except for some upgraded hardware. I'm running Vista 32 premium home edition, Nvidia 9800 GX2, 3.67 Ghz. It's a sweet deal. However when I load a flight in FSX, I get about a minute into it, and then the screen freezes, followed by mouse freeze, and you have to turn the computer off to reset. I tried uninstalling the McAfee firewall that came with the computer and that didn't help. (I was able to have it work on my last computer). I tired "allowing" programs through the firewall and that didn't work either. I am running key programs as administrator, and have UAC turned off. Until the system crashes, I get great FPS, and have it locked at 27 FPS. I had FSX all tweaked out on my old machine, and now can't even get out the pattern before it locks up.
I may go back to FS9 but I'm guessing/hoping there is some software setting that I am not getting right.
All thoughts appreciated!
