Ed. Thats quite enteresting. Not sure what kind of bird that was ( the aircraft} 767 or 757? She sure wan't having any problems maintaining a climb configuration! Rolls Royce RB 211's. King of the sky! I enjoyed the 757 going verticle video. Listen to those RB 211's sing a song! I have TSS RB 211 sound pack on my 57 in surround sound. Sounds just like that.

If GE CF6-80C2B8F engines were attached to a typical automobile, at takeoff power the car would accelerate from zero to 60 mph (96.5 kph) in less than .5 seconds.

    Re: Bird Strike

There used to be a much longer version of that on youtube where you saw the plane come back in to land.....it is a 757.  Whether with Rollers or Pratts the 757 is just an awesome airplane.....

Try this for the long version....

    Re: Bird Strike

Hi Guys, that was one hell of a day. I was working in Terminal 2 the day that happened. Normally you could hear the aircraft t/o from outside the terminal building but that was something else. Couldnt see it because Terminal 1 obscured our view but the sound that thing made was horrendous - horrible thoughts came to mind. It parked on a remote gate across from us. Managed to have a little look at it - it was in a bit of a state, think it stood there for a week or so after that.

Good Memories of working at Manchester, thanks Eoin

Ye, its a 757 alright. I'd say that there was a few hearts racing in Manchester that day!! Just watched the full lenght version there, I really like the way you can hear ATC!

    Re: Bird Strike

The interesting part for me is what you hear from the crew is exactly how we run it in the simulator every six months when I go in to training (a 757 is obviously bigger than the CL30, but the procedures are pretty similar).

My mom asked one time, don't you get nervous or afraid?  I told her we train on these things so much that you don't really have time for emotion.  You have a job to do and an airplane to keep flying, so you roll up your sleeves and go to work and get it done.......which is exactly what this crew did based on what I hear on the video.......

    Re: Bird Strike

Any news about the bird? I hope it's OK. Really the pilots should have stopped straight away to see if they could assist and call the RSPCA. This could well be a good example of how humanity has become oblivious to plight of animal welfare.

    Re: Bird Strike

I think that a $30 million aircraft and a 180 people's lives are a little bit more important than a bird!! Something tells me that the RSPCA are'nt going to be able to do very much!! I don't think there'll be very much of that bird left to help!!

Well - sadly - the bird would have been incinerated on impact - those engines run a little hot on the insideSad (if it hadn't been ripped apart by the turbine)

One little nasty fact is that before an aircraft is released for sale - they test the engines with birds (dead beforehand) and if the engine stops - then the engine fails the test or if it continues - then it's a pass.

Anyhow - thanks for giving the link to that video (seen it before) - just a shame FSX doesn't simulate bird strikes in free flight - only in missions that it doesTongue Tied

    Re: Bird Strike

But nobody checked about the poor bird! It might have negotiated its way between the horrendously fast spinning blades of titanium alloy and the increduoulously high temperatures of the turbine temperatures. Micosurgery and burn specialist surgeons can do wonders these days! I just know that there are some orphan birds about wondering where Daddy is! Let's donate some money to the poor orphan birds!

P.S I am not in Nigeria. (I have a sick sense of humour)

    Re: Bird Strike

Well - if the bird did make it past the turbine then it would either

    • Have a heart attack
    • Fly in a crooked fashion and smack into the terminal glass
    • Be picked up by a falcon/hawk and fed to its chicks
    • Sucked into the next aircraft that takes off (possibly what could have happened there)

But as WWA2104 says - there wouldn't exactly be much left (2 feathers most likely). Us humans can be cruel sometimesConfused

    Re: Bird Strike

Just a shame they have to compete with seagulls - those poor orphan birds - just make sure they don't get too close, or it'll be like a scene from 'The Birds'Indifferent
