Well it was a little later than planned thanks to work issues....
The Saitek controls have been working great for me so far, no issues with repeating keys that were reported when the product was released. All in all I am quite pleased with it.
A few things that should be noted
The base of the yoke is metal, as is the shaft of the control, but everything else is plastic.
The yoke needs a lot of room under the desk, so much so that I had to remove my under-desk keyboard drawer that lived comfortably under my old CH yoke. Ditto for the throtlles.
there is ONE big plastic screw that holds the yoke onto the desk, and one more for the throttle. Surprisignly it does hold them in place quite securely. The entire attachment pieces are plastic, so it would be easy to replace if it became damaged.
Its going to take a while to get used to having the hat on the left side, but I'm getting used to it. The slide-switches they use rather than rockers on the yoke handles are a nice upgrade IMHO.
The LCD on the yoke has two funcitons: time of day, and a stopwatch. it also shows which of the three 'modes' your system is in. As with the X52 you can use the enclosed software you can program three sets of control programs, which you can switch to using the wheel on the right side of the yoke handle (right under your index finger).
I like the feel of it. The detent on the throttles is much more noticable that my CH was. Having 3 throttle controls is OK for me as I don't fly 4-engine aircraft anyway. An additional throttle switch is avaialble for about $50.
Don't expect to be able to plug a USB drive into the usb ports, there won't be enough power to drive it. To be honest I didn't expect this to work. :)
So, is it an 'upgrade' to my old CH system? I think they are very comparable so maybe not an 'upgrade' is not the right word, but since my CH yoke broke I was in the market for a new one. I like the Saitek and have no remorse about buy it, but I don't think you can go wrong with the CH either.
