For Immediate Release:
Due to rising fuel costs and weakening passenger demand caused by the current U.S. economic conditions, Westwind Airlines' Dallas-Fort Worth Hub Operations is announcing changes to the Westwind Express flight schedule serving smaller markets throughout Texas and Louisiana
Regional Jet service is no longer viable on short flights with current costs and passenger demand. These conditions have prompted DFW Hub Operations to rely more heavily on its robust fleet of smaller, more efficient Turboprop aircraft to maintain the same level of service our passengers have grown accustomed to, without trying to extract revenue via varying service related charges.
Effective immediately, the following cities formerly served by our fleet of Regional Jets are now served with Westwind Express Turboprop service:
Abilene, Amarillo, Baton Rouge, Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Kileen/Ft. Hood, Laredo, Lubbock, Midland, San Angelo, Texarkana, Wichita KS, and Shreveport
Additionally, Regional Jet service is being discontinued in Houston Hobby, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa, where our fleet of Narrow Body aircraft will now exclusively be used for passenger service.
Westwind remains committed to serving each of our destinations with the same level of high service it always has, and DFW Hub Operations has no plans to eliminate routes from its schedule; however it is possible in the future that longer Regional Jet service from DFW may be replaced by a connection to one of our many hubs throughout the US.
