FSX - FSINN and VATSIM Connection Problems.

    Hello Everyone,

After 2 yrs with no internet connection at my home in the Philippines (I have been using the Internet cafes to log my flights) I have finally got an internet connection at home again.  I am flying both FS9 and FSX but prefer FSX.  I have downloaded and installed both copilot 1.7 and FSinn 1.3 and everything seems to be working ok.  I have also input all the required information for logging into VATSIM for FSinn the problem is that I am unable to connect.

My question is this, since I have never used FSX for online operations do I need to register with Gamespy to use FSinn? or is there something else I am missing?

I've read the manuals for both FScopilot and FSinn but I am unable to solve my dilimea.  Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ed

First thing you should look at is your firewall.  According to a topic on the VATSIM forum, the following modules need full access:
      FSFDTCP.exe
      FSInnUI.exe
      FWINN.exe

    Thanks Mark,

I will  take a look at my firewall and insure those exe's do have full access.  Hopefully, this will solve the problem, I will let you know how I make out.

You do not need to register at GameSpy (thank goodness) to use FSInn.  Did you click the "Load Servers" button and select a server?

Re: FSX - FSINN and VATSIM Connection Problems.

If you want me to look at/send you any of my FSInn configurations, I can do that... I'm using Windows XP Pro + FSInn 1.3 + FSCopilot 1.7 + FSX SP2 and except for the FSInn+VATSIM Weather issue, it is good.

The weather issue is that temperatures aloft will be unrealistically hot... no, physically-impossibly hot.. like +32C at FL350.  Use ActiveSky or the built-in FSX real-world weather and do NOT let FSInn download weather from VATSIM, to work around this issue.

Yes, Scott please do that you can post them here of send me an email at edbleck@yahoo.com I have done everything the manual and all the instruction tutorials on VATSIM have said to do but I still can not connect.  I keep getting a timout with any connection I use (i.e., oceania, W. US etc., etc.,)  To me it appears it is not connecting to my modem but that is just a wild guess.

    Thanks,

Re: FSX - FSINN and VATSIM Connection Problems.

Interesting... first try pinging the VATSIM servers:

    Oceania: 202.45.127.66
    USA-W 216.93.170.44

both of these should respond to a ping... if you're not familiar with that, open a windows command prompt, and at the prompt, type:

    ping 202.45.127.66

    and then when it's done,

    ping 216.93.170.44

what you want to see is a response with a round-trip time listed, and *not* "Request timed out".  I assume your computer can talk to the internet normally (or you wouldn't be here on the forums?).  If it can't get out on the net at all, though, that needs to be fixed first :)

Re: FSX - FSINN and VATSIM Connection Problems.

Well that was interesting...I pinged both IPs and got the same result...no response. I turned off both my firewall and virus protection with the same result. I am using my cell phone as a modem so I don't know if there is a router inside the phone or on the network itself.  If there is a router on the phone (which I doubt) I might be able to open a port for FSX...If not then I thnk I am out of luck....Oh well I will keep you posted.

By the way I can go everywhere else on the net without a problem so I don't know if this is unique or what but I intend to find out.

Re: FSX - FSINN and VATSIM Connection Problems.

Good news at least for me.  My IP reset my connection and now I can fly online via VATSIM.  Thank you to everyone who helped me out figuring out what was wrong.  It is soooooooo nice to be able to fly online again.

Re: FSX - FSINN and VATSIM Connection Problems.

Grrrrr, this is so frustrating.  I have Windows VISTA, and use FSX and FSInn.  I haven't had a problem with either for almost 2 years now then all of the sudden, I would be flying online and within 15 minutes after taking off, my FSX would crash due to a fatal error.  So, yesterday I removed FSX, FSInn and FSCopilot, cleaned up my system, rebooted my computer, then reinstalled FSX, FSInn and FSCopilot. Now, for some reason, FSInn isn't loading up when I start my FSX?

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any suggestions or assistance from anyone?  I use FSX, FS Copilot 1.7.4982.1520 and FSInn 1.3.4982.1521

Re: FSX - FSINN and VATSIM Connection Problems.

    Here are two thoughts:

    1) If you are using Vista, make sure User Account Control (UAC) is off.  This can be found under the account settings option of the control panel.I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but I first turn UAC on, then go to all of FSInn applications and under compatibility,  check run as administrator.  Then turn UAC off, where run as admin. is the default (and only) anyway. You have to reboot each time you turn UAC on/off.

    2) As I recently learned myself, sometimes FSInn needs to be run under the Start menu the first time for it to work, and then can later be run under the add-on menu of FSX.

     - keep trying - I know your pain

Re: FSX - FSINN and VATSIM Connection Problems.

I gave up on FSInn with FSX a long time ago. It never worked for me. I use Squawkbox. There is a new version out for FSX. It is in beta but does reasonably well as far as I can tell.
