Good morning all;

Just wanted to pass on a website I found that spells out noise abatement procedures: http://web.nbaa.org/public/ops/quietflying/

Where I work I have a very clear profile view of aircraft taking off from Reagan National - pretty cool to watch them rocket off the runway, climb to what looks like 1000' and then pretty abruptly push the nose down and climb at a slower rate.  I'm thinking that they follow these procedures there.

I can't even imagine what it must have been like with 707s, 727s, and early DC9/Maddogs screaming out of there before noise abatement became common!

Matt, we have a bunch of 727 boiling out of KMEM that are Fed Ex aircraft in the real world. They still seem quite loud.  Soon to be replaced by 757s.

Good new is that we can run our DC9s and 727s right up to max EPR on takeoff because the cyber people that live in the villages below have no ears.

I get a laugh out of it when I hear an area described as 'noise sensitive', which I think is code for having a lot of money. The earless cyber people can only afford blurry houses around the airport (on my system at least) so throttle up!

The only noise abatement to be concerned with at KMEM is Fly runway heading on 9/27 until 3000' if you are turning south.  Other than that, it is pretty straightforward there.  Generally, when I am controlling, I try to keep it in mind about noise abatement unless it gets busy.  Then that is the 1st thing I stop worrying about
